Standard Mounjaro dose schedule
Mounjaro uses the same dose ladder as Zepbound — gradual titration lets your body adjust and helps tame GI side effects. Your prescriber chooses the maintenance dose based on glucose response and tolerance.
- 2.5 mgWeeks 1–4Starting dose. Not intended for weight loss; gets your body acclimated.
- 5 mgWeeks 5–8
- 7.5 mgWeeks 9–12 (optional bridge)
- 10 mgWeeks 13–16
- 12.5 mgWeeks 17–20 (optional bridge)
- 15 mgMaintenanceMaximum approved dose.
For type 2 diabetes, the maintenance dose is whatever achieves your A1C target with acceptable tolerability — not necessarily the maximum.
What the trials show for Mounjaro
−2.30% A1C and −11.2 kg at 15 mg over 40 weeks
SURPASS-2 was a 40-week head-to-head trial of 1,879 adults with type 2 diabetes inadequately controlled on metformin. Participants were randomized to weekly tirzepatide (5, 10, or 15 mg) or weekly semaglutide 1 mg, on top of standard care.

Common side effects of Mounjaro
Tirzepatide-specific tolerability profile.
- Nausea
- Diarrhea
- Decreased appetite
- Vomiting
- Constipation
- Indigestion
- Abdominal pain
GI symptoms tend to peak in the first weeks at each dose level and usually subside as your body adapts. Spreading meals and reducing high-fat foods often helps. Hypoglycemia is uncommon with Mounjaro alone but can occur if combined with insulin or sulfonylureas — review those medications with your prescriber.

Mounjaro questions
Made for GLP-1 users,
by a GLP-1 user
After months on GLP-1s, I was frustrated. I found myself navigating forgotten doses, inconsistent progress, and juggling multiple tracking apps without getting much in return. So, I decided to build something better.
Over the last year, I built Sage to be the ultimate companion for GLP-1 medication. I prioritized bringing ease, clarity, and efficacy to tracking. And it's only going to get better.
